A restaurant that is serving corned beef, pickles, and bagels, may be kosher. The torah is very clear and easy when it comes to what is kosher. The restaurant may be wanting to be jewish. It may be wanting to be kosher. Most places have kosher food on hand by virtue of nationally hechshered products. What they do with this kosher food once it is in the door and served is another matter. The restaurant may even want to be New York style. I Love New York Deli, Goldberg's and other delis that are not on the Va'ad list. Of Course! Most restaurants purchase at least some ingredients that arrive on premise with a hechsher. And all of these places will go to some length to give you these kosher foods as they are. The thing to do is just ask what they have that is kosher. So go, support these people, and enjoy the community of Seattle kosher.

Two Cents Plain and Agri Star Meats

go to these websites.

Kosher Chinese

Chinese food is not kosher, it is chinese. While chocolate covered matzo may be kosher, it is not in the intention of Torah kosher. We all want children to look forward to yontif. But we should teach them, by our example of what Pesach is all about. And I will tell you it is not about kosher for passover Pizza. So everyone, as you prepare for Pesach, remember it is about the mitzvah and miracle of Matzoh. Gut Yontif. It is an interesting read but has me wondering about bread. Challah must be taken for bread to be kosher. And since bread is more essential to children than meat I am wondering how many people actually are keeping kosher. If it were substantial, kosher bread would be as readily available as kosher meat, but it is not. I think kosher bread consumption is a better barometer of kashrus than meat. I would love to see an uptick in fresh and frozen kosher bread in supermarkets.

nikur and tzedek

Nikur is part of chullin and is important. Not in any order here are some off the top of my head. Nosh Away, Albertsons, QFC, I Love New York Deli, Bagel Oasis, Metropolitan Market, PCC, Island Crust Pizza and the enitre list found on the Va'ad of Seattle website. There are also places to buy food that we have always loved but may not have a hechsher...yet. Buffalo Deli, Eats in White Center, Bagel Deli on Capitol hill, Wherever you can find a bagel mit schmear, such as Blazing Bagel. This is just a quick list for anyone looking. I will be expanding this list in future writings. And of course there is a difference between kosher and should be kosher. My feeling is the more the demand for kosher the sooner the whole world is kosher.
